This is our vision and strategy for children and young people, aged 0 – 25, who have a special educational need or disability (SEND).
It’s based on what children and young people have told us is important; it’s a vision statement and a call to action.
Our vision is for all children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities to dream, believe and achieve, and fulfil their potential.
From the conversations we’ve had with children, young people, families and professionals, we understand that we need to make improvements to the way we support children and young people with SEND.
When we talk about families, this includes children and young people with SEND who are in care or have left care.
Supporting children and young people with SEND is everyone’s responsibility. This strategy will act as a map and compass to guide us all on the next steps we take together towards a common, shared goal.
How we work with children and young people with SEND, and their families
We will:
- listen, hear their views and try to understand what is behind the challenges they face
- work together effectively as the best way to provide the right support, in the right place and at the right time
- work with the whole family to support them to find their own solutions and build on their strengths
- base our support around their community and provide the help they need as early as possible
